Bobbe Joy has a passion for pushing the envelope in the development of color. Believing that makeup must be truly wearable, she custom-blends original lipsticks, lip glosses, foundations, blushes and other essentials, which are far beyond the limited palettes of mass-produced brands. “I love creating in-between colors,” she says, “Like a lip gloss that’s somewhere between a toasty-pink nude and a slightly smoky mauve, for example. The subtle nuances are what make our products so different from what’s in the department stores.” Adding mouthwatering fragrance to lip glosses has become another Bobbe Joy trademark, and clients’ kisses are sweetened with the irresistible essences of crème brule, chocolate mint, cappuccino and other favorites.
Her contemporary line of products, Makeup! Bobbe Joy, allows women to create a look, which is sophisticated, sensual and polished. Bobbe Joy’s approach to beauty is not so much corrective as revelatory. She says, “The greatest beauties are those who have discovered something genuine within themselves, and communicate this to the world.”
As a teen, she taped photographs of her idol, Sophia Loren, to her bedroom mirror, learning to recreate the star’s perfectly almond cat-eyes on herself. Today, she realizes that what intrigued her about Loren was her authenticity as a person. Bobbe says, “She imitated no one, and as a result was widely imitated, including by me. At the Academy Awards or wherever Sophia is seen, all other females pale in comparison to this womanly, sexy, self-assured beauty.”
Bobbe established her professional reputation on television and movie sets, perfecting the faces of the famous for unforgiving cameras. She has also shared her face-forward techniques on-air as part of makeover specials for HGTV, Access Hollywood, The Other Half, EXTRA and The Today Show.
A child of Hollywood, Bobbe Joy grew up around the studios, sets and sound stages where stars were transformed daily into gods and goddesses under the talented sponges and brushes of industry makeup artists. Her philosophy is that beauty is always present, simply waiting to be awakened through the most flattering arching of a brow or the selection of foundations, blushers, lip and eye colors which make the face look relaxed, healthy and rested.
